Can AI pave the way for better planning?
AI is here, there, and everywhere. If you haven’t already come across it in your daily work, you certainly notice it in your LinkedIn feed and whenever management talks strategy and development. One of the questions that tends to pop up is which tasks we want to outsource to AI and which we prefer to keep as human responsibilities. Setting up your annual plan is a great example of a task where AI can lend a helping hand.
Use AI’s strengths to your advantage
AI excels at idea generation and drafting a wide range of documents, including various texts and Excel sheets. Why not utilize this in your planning? With 2026 right around the corner, it’s high time to get your annual plan ready. It can seem like an overwhelming project, partly because there are so many different activities to carry out over the next 365 days, and partly because planning isn’t just about putting things into a calendar.
In an ideal world, all organizational activities would be scheduled based on thorough consideration of timing, strategy, and synergy, rather than when they fit into the calendar. In the real world, it’s usually a mix of the dream scenario and what’s logistically possible. Sometimes, it feels like trying to complete a puzzle with too many pieces and not enough time to spare. AI can be helpful when getting started, as it can generate a draft that provides both structure and specific activities to work with.
However, the actual thought process can’t be completed by AI; that part still needs your input. Ultimately, it’s you and your human brain who are intuitive enough to make the final assessment. But for sparring and a first draft, AI has your back. For instance, you can generate a plandisc by describing your planning needs to our chatbot. Tell the bot the main activities you want to include, the number of rings you need, and which labels you’d like to use, and watch it create a proposal for how your circular planner can look.
Adjust the result
And it’s okay if you’re not fully aware of all your planning needs from the get-go. Your first prompt to the chatbot can be a more general one, without too many details. The great thing about this feature is that it provides a structure on which to build. Think of the chatbot’s suggestion as a personal template, something to inspire you that you can tailor further to your needs. You can always add or delete rings and their titles, as well as specific activities and labels. It’s your plandisc to build, the AI just gave you a first draft.
